RAIL FROM PRETORIA TO CAPE TOWN (OR REVERSE) 
Meander through the grasslands of the gold-rich Highveld to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo; roll through the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic winelands of the Cape. The Journey’s end/starts in Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa Visit the historic village of Matjiesfontein, an authentically preserved Victorian Village founded as a refreshment stop in 1890.  Visit the Diamond Mine Museum in Kimberley and the world’s largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.

Depart for a journey across the goldfields  of  Witwatersrand. Lunch at 13:00 Tea will be served at 16;30 in the lounge or observation car. Dinner and overnight on board

Kimberly is known for the discovery of Diamonds in 1871. Enjoy a tour of Kimberley's Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Lunch is served in the dining cars while you travel through the Karoo, a vast semi desert region. Dinner is served at 19;30 en route to Gemsbok.

Breakfast available from 7:00 to 10:00. During breakfast, guest will have a chance to disembark the train at Whitehill Siding and walk 5 km to Matjiesfontein. Visit the museum on the platform to see a collection of historic cars and railway carriages. The train then proceeds through the first of 4 tunnels for 13.5 km.

The train then climbs 750 m down the escarpment through the Hex River Valley.
